As soon as you arrive to the UK there is a list of things that you need to do:
National Insurance Number
To work in the UK you must have a National Insurance Number. Your NI number is your own personal account
number. It is unique to you and you keep the same one all your life. It is used to track your national insurance
contributions and the benefits you receive. You cannot let anyone else use your number.
If you have a biometric residence permit (BRP), you might have a National Insurance number already - it will be
printed on the back of your BRP if you do. Otherwise you will need to apply for one.
To request your NI number, visit www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number. You can only apply once you are
in the UK. You will then receive a letter asking you to attend an identity interview at your local Job Centre within 1-
2 weeks after applying. If you get accepted after your identity appointment it will take 3-6 weeks for your national
insurance number to arrive in the post.
You can start work without your NI number but you'll need to apply for one straight away.
Opening a Bank Account in the UK
In order to open a UK bank account, you will need two documents: one to prove your identity and one to prove
your address. This applies both in branch and online.
Settling in
Proving your identity is simple. You just need your
passport, driving licence or identity card (if you're an EU
national). You will also have to prove your address by
providing another document. As you are new in the country,
the Trust is providing a proof of address for the
Accommodation and a proof of Employment, but please,
bear in mind that as soon as you move, you need to notify
your change of address to both Payroll (Payslips) and your
bank.
They will normally ask you to do what they call an "interview" which is simply an appointment with them, so they
have enough time to process your account and discuss what kind of account you aruhbw-support@barclays.com>The following bancustomer.care.team@hscb.comees if you wish to open an account with them:
